Olga Schibli suffered from severe shoulder pain for years and put off undergoing surgery for a long time. 

Huge praise for Schulthess Klinik: a research study headed up by Prof. Dr. med. univ. Phillipp Moroder of the Shoulder and Elbow Surgery department has been awarded the SECEC Grammont Award 2024. 

Prof. Dr. med. Markus Scheibel, Head of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery at Schulthess Klinik, had the proud honour of being invited to the world-renowned Mayo Clinic in the USA as a visiting professor at the end of August. 

The Shoulder and Elbow Surgery department at Schulthess Klinik has successfully operated on freestyle wrestler and Olympic champion Akhmed Tazhudinov. Before his surgery, the athlete, who competes for Bahrain, won the gold medal in freestyle wrestling in the 97 kg weight class at the Olympic Games in Paris despite a serious shoulder injury.

The third HSS-Charité-Schulthess Shoulder Conference is taking place on Friday, 23 June 2023. The conference will see specialists from the HSS Hospital for Special Surgery, New York, Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and Schulthess Klinik join forces to share their knowledge with shoulder surgeons from all over the world in online training sessions.

A multicentre study by our research team on the treatment of posterior shoulder instability was awarded the Best Paper Prize at the Dublin congress of the European Society for Surgery of the Shoulder and the Elbow (SECEC).

The research department of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery has once again published groundbreaking results, this time for a known and hitherto unsolved problem after rotator cuff surgeries: frozen shoulder. Thanks to a study based on our comprehensive rotator cuff registry there are now better prognosis and prevention options.

The European Society for Surgery of the Shoulder and the Elbow (SECEC/ESSSE) has recognised our Shoulder and Elbow Surgery department, which is led by Prof. Dr. med. Markus Scheibel, as an SECEC/ESSSE Teaching Centre. Schulthess Klinik is delighted to have received the recognition required to become such a Teaching Centre, and looks forward to making an even greater contribution to training shoulder and elbow surgeons at European level.

From a health perspective, the repair of a torn rotator cuff (should tendon) can be beneficial to many patients. But does the surgical procedure also make economic sense? Our team of researchers and doctors joined forces with the Winterthur Institute of Health Economics and 16 major Swiss insurance providers to investigate this very question, using a cost-utility analysis of arthroscopic rotator cuff repair.
