With effect from 1 October 2026, Prof. Dr med. univ. Philipp Moroder will take up the post of Head of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, succeeding Prof. Dr med. Markus Scheibel, who has led the departement since 2018.

Two specialist books from Schulthess Klinik were published in May: Prof. Dr. med. Markus Scheibel, Head of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, and Dr. biol. hum. Fabio Galbusera, Head of the Spine Research Group, have each published a new reference work.

Since January 2026, Prof. Dr. med. univ. Philipp Moroder has been the new Deputy Head of our Shoulder and Elbow Surgery department.

Twenty years ago, Dr. med. Hans-Kaspar Schwyzer began systematically documenting shoulder prosthesis surgeries at the Schulthess Klinik. Thousands of cases later, this amount of data now provides unique insights for research and treatment. Together with his successor, Prof. Dr. med. At the start of February 2026, Schulthess Klinik will have an exceptionally strong presence at the Paris International Shoulder Course. 

The Executive Committee and Board of Directors has elected Prof. Dr. med. Markus Scheibel, Head of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery at Schulthess Klinik, President of the European Society for Surgery of the Shoulder and Elbow (SECEC/ESSSE) for the term 2026 to 2028.
