In March, Head of Department Dr. Daniel Herren from the Hand Surgery department at the Schulthess Klinik welcomed two specialist international colleagues as guests: Prof. Simon Farnebo from Sweden and Dr. Alex Lluch from Spain. They exchanged information about the latest surgical techniques and provided insights into research.

Schulthess Klinik has come out on top in the “Top Specialist Hospitals in Switzerland” list for the second time in a row, taking first place for orthopaedics.

Researchers at the Schulthess Clinic have co-authored a study that examines a model that allows for more accurate, automatic measurement of spinal parameters during X-rays. The model is based on deep learning and supports surgeons in particular in the diagnosis of adjacent segment disease.

Schulthess Klinik has twice been recognised in the latest hospital rankings from the American magazine “Newsweek” and the statistics portal “Statista”. Schulthess Klinik ranks first in Europe and fourth worldwide on the “World's Best Specialized Hospitals 2024” list.

Exactly 140 years ago, a young doctor called Dr. Wilhelm Schulthess opened the Orthopedic Institute on Löwenstrasse in Zurich, laying the foundations for what would become Schulthess Klinik. 

The ‘HSS-Charité-Schulthess Spine Case Conference’ was held for the ninth time on 21 July. The conference is an occasion for specialists from the HSS Hospital for Special Surgery, New York, Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and Schulthess Klinik Zurich to join forces and share their knowledge with specialists from all over the world in online training sessions.

A Schulthess Klinik research group has received the «Outstanding Special Poster» award from the International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine for its research report on a therapy for painful lateral disc herniation.

The third HSS-Charité-Schulthess Shoulder Conference is taking place on Friday, 23 June 2023. The conference will see specialists from the HSS Hospital for Special Surgery, New York, Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and Schulthess Klinik join forces to share their knowledge with shoulder surgeons from all over the world in online training sessions.

Schulthess Klinik carried out 10,000 operations and 133,126 outpatient consultations in 2022, and generated a very positive result. The clinic’s annual report shows how its 1,149 employees from 47 nations achieved this. And all under the motto: “We are in motion because we are building on a strong foundation.”

Our Hand Surgery and Research team was strongly represented at the FESSH/EFSHT Congress for hand surgeons and hand therapists in Rimini. We contributed to the discussions of the latest research results with 20 lectures and presentations.
