News Prof. Dr. med. Markus Scheibel brings the presidency of the European Society for Surgery of the Shoulder and Elbow back to Schulthess Klinik
The Executive Committee and Board of Directors has elected Prof. Dr. med. Markus Scheibel, Head of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery at Schulthess Klinik, President of the European Society for Surgery of the Shoulder and Elbow (SECEC/ESSSE) for the term 2026 to 2028. Schulthess Klinik has played a key role in shaping this professional association since its inception and is delighted to now be represented by several experts in the field.
The European Society for Surgery of the Shoulder and Elbow, or Société Européenne de Chirurgie de l’Épaule et du Coude (SECEC) in French, was founded in 1987 by Parisian Dr. Didier Patte and the long-serving head and visionary behind Schulthess Klinik, Prof. Dr. Norbert Gschwend, who was also the first president of the SECEC/ESSSE. With Prof. Dr. med. Markus Scheibel now serving as incoming president on its committee, SECEC/ESSSE is once again being presided over by a proven expert and award-winning academic and surgeon from the ranks of Schulthess Klinik.
In addition to Prof. Dr. med. Scheibel, Prof. Dr. med. univ. Philipp Moroder was appointed to the Qualification Committee and PD Dr. med. Florian Freislederer to the Education Committee of SECEC/ESSSE. Both are Chief Consultants at Schulthess Klinik and will actively support the professional association on their respective committees.
Promoting scientific cooperation and education

About Prof. Dr. med. Markus Scheibel
Prof. Dr. med. Scheibel has been Head of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery at Schulthess Klinik in Zurich since 2018, where he chairs the Teaching, Research and Development Advisory Board. He has also been visiting professor at the Center for Musculoskeletal Surgery (CMSC) at the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin (university hospital) since 2018. He completed his studies in Medicine and doctorate at Leipzig University, and his venia legendi at the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin.
