News 10th Albatros Golf Trophy: An anniversary and a farewell
The 10th Albatros Golf Trophy marks not only a special anniversary, but also the departure of Dr Tomas Drobny and his wife Dascha. After 20 years of successfully managing the Golf Medical Centre, they are handing over the reins and can look back on many achievements, including the long-awaited cooperation with Swiss Golf.
Schulthess Klinik recently celebrated a special event: the 10th Albatros Golf Trophy, a tournament that brings together golfers with and without prostheses. Organised by the Golf Medical Center (GMC), the tournament underlines the close ties between the clinic and the golfing world. Many Albatros Training customers and Schulthess Clinic patients – including prosthesis wearers – took part, and there was a separate category for prosthesis wearers. Particularly impressive was the story of two ladies, aged 82 and 89, who played the entire tournament despite having had knee and hip replacements and delivered astonishing performances. GMC golf expert André Bossert, Switzerland’s most successful golf touring professional, also attended the event. He is the only Swiss citizen to have won the European Tour.
Albatros Training is a special golf fitness training programme offered by Schulthess Klinik. This golf-only training centre is unique in the world. It is the place where golfers have met all year round for the past 15 years. Launched 10 years ago by the Golf Medical Center, the Albatros Golf Trophy has become a key fixture within the golf community over the years. But this anniversary also marks a farewell: Dr Tomas and Dascha Drobny will relinquish management of the GMC at the end of the year. The Golf Medical Center has done an enormous amount of work since it was founded in 2004 and is now an established institution for golfers with musculoskeletal disorders. Coinciding with the 10th Albatros Trophy, Prof. Jiří Dvořák, a neurologist who previously worked at Schullthess Klinik for many years, has also published a global study on injuries and illnesses among amateur golfers. This was made possible in particular thanks to many GMC participants.
Another milestone this year: after 20 years, Schulthess Klinik has entered into a strategic partnership with Swiss Golf. This collaboration was a long-cherished goal of Dr Drobny and is the crowning glory of his impressive career.
The Golf Medical Center will be headed by Dr Stefan Preiss and Dr François Porchet, who will continue Dr Drobny’s successful work. Schulthess Klinik thus remains an important point of contact for golfers and is continuing its work in the field of sports medicine.
The farewell of Dr Tomas Drobny, who is retiring after 40 years of service, marks the end of an era – but his legacy will continue to shape Switzerland’s golfing world for a long time to come.
