Concussion and sport

Sport can be a source of concussions. especially contact sports where the head and body are subjected to sudden forces of acceleration for which they are unprepared. This kind of injury can affect various systems (brain, cervical spine, equilibrium organ in the inner ear) simultaneously.

In the overwhelming majority of cases, the prognosis is good to very good and, following targeted diagnosis, most patients simply require information and structured guidance on what they need to do to recover.

Through our interdisciplinary collaboration (sports medicine, neurology, sport and vestibular physiotherapy), our extensive medical support network through the Swiss Olympic Medical Center and daily work in the field of elite sport, we also treat patients with complex concussions and offer advice to external institutions.

Our aim is to enable affected athletes to enjoy a personalised, competent, safe and fast return to work/life/sport and guide them through the rehabilitation process. In doing so, we draw and expand on the many years of experience and expertise we have in our team.

20 years of shoulder registry: from a pioneering project to a valuable source of knowledge

Markus Scheibel, who now continues the project with his team, Hans-Kaspar Schwyzer reflects in this interview on the early days, the development, and the years of collaboration.
