He researches, develops and operates – and has played a decisive role in shaping hand surgery in Europe for years. Dr. med. Daniel Herren, Head of Hand Surgery at Schulthess Klinik, has now been awarded the title of “Giant of Hand Surgery” – only the second Swiss hand surgeon ever to receive this accolade.
An outstanding achievement: The Federation of European Societies for Surgery of the Hand (FESSH) has honoured Dr. Daniel Herren as a “Giant of Hand Surgery” – the second Swiss hand surgeon to receive this title. With this prestigious award, FESSH acknowledges hand surgeons who have helped shape their field over many years through their exceptional commitment to research, teaching and clinical practice. Only one person is nominated per member society.
For decades, Daniel Herren has built up an excellent reputation – as an innovative clinician, researcher and educator. He is the author and co-author of over 130 scientific publications, books and book chapters. At congresses, he is a sought-after speaker and source of inspiration. He was also instrumental in the development of state-of-the-art implants for finger joints.
Internationally recognised personality
From 2020 to 2023, Daniel Herren, as Secretary General of FESSH, also shaped the international development of the field – with foresight and prudence. Under his leadership, the Hand Surgery department at Schulthess Klinik has developed into one of Europe’s leading addresses.
