News Successes for Hand Surgery at the annual European congress
Scientific achievements and groundbreaking projects: The Schulthess Klinik team was strongly represented at the annual congress of the Federation of European Societies for Surgery of the Hand (FESSH) – and won several awards.

First-hand knowledge transfer: At the FESSH congress in Helsinki, our specialists from Hand Surgery and Science highlighted the research work currently being carried out at Schulthess Klinik as part of lectures and presentations. These attracted a great deal of attention among the experts – for good reason: This is because the expertise of our Hand Surgery team is internationally recognised. This was demonstrated at the annual congress with the award of three prizes: The team was delighted to receive two “Top-Cited Paper Awards” from the Journal of Hand Surgery (European Volume) for two scientific publications on arthroplasty of the trapeziometacarpal joint. These prizes go to the most cited articles of recent years.
Our up-and-coming talent is also shining
The third award went to our doctoral student Luca Häfliger. He took second place in the “Shark Tank Competition”. This competition allows young scientists to present their ideas. Luca Häfliger’s project on AI-assisted image evaluation for osteoarthritis of the trapeziometacarpal joint (“Next-generation radiographic evaluation in hand surgery”) impressed the jury with its innovative strength.
These successes show: Schulthess Klinik is playing a decisive role in shaping the future of hand surgery – scientifically sound and practically oriented.
