Der schwere Klumpfuss beim älteren Kind – keine Operation nötig
These days, operations to correct clubfoot are no longer necessary if the physician treating the condition has sufficient experience. The impressive development achieved with a case of insufficiently pretreated clubfoot shows that the Ponseti method can potentially achieve outstanding results with older children as well.

Quality of everyday life thanks to research on the knee joint
Our research team is taking a closer look at the bone. Specifically, we want to know what influence bone structure and bone quality have on the longevity of a knee prosthesis. We are looking for answers to the following questions: For which patients is a knee prosthesis the right treatment option? Which prosthesis is best for whom? And how long can the patient expect their knee prosthesis to last? Find out more about our current research project.
Complications following surgery for spinal curvatures: searching for the cause
Long-segment fusion operations may be the best solution for treating spinal curvature in adults, but why do some patients experience mechanical complications after this kind of surgery? Our research team is on the case: working with ETH Zurich as part of the European Spine Study Group, it is looking into the causes of this with the aim of further improving and tailoring the treatment options available to these patients.
What effect do concomitant diseases have on the outcome of prosthetic hip surgery?
One year after their hip operation, most patients are satisfied with the result, with many even declaring that they are very satisfied. Patients with concomitant diseases can still expect a similar improvement in terms of hip function. However, this group of patients has a somewhat increased risk of complications. This was the conclusion reached by our research team, which investigated the connection between comorbidities, the risk of complications and the patient’s perceptions of osteoarthritis-related hip surgery.
