World’s first implant of a KeriFlex finger joint prosthesis

On 19 January, the world’s first implant of a KeriFlex finger prosthesis was performed at Schulthess Klinik. Dr. med. Daniel Herren MHA, our Head of Hand Surgery, assisted with the development of this prosthesis for patients experiencing painful deterioration of their proximal interphalangeal and metacarpophalangeal joints as the result of accident or illness.

CapFlex: Results published five years after the interphalangeal joint prosthesis

Our hand surgeons use the CapFlex prosthesis developed at our clinic to treat many cases of osteoarthritis in the interphalangeal joints. After over ten years of working with the implant and more than 330 CapFlex prostheses implanted at the Schulthess Klinik, we have now published the initial findings in a renowned international journal, five years after surgery.

In light of the current situation, this year’s Federation of European Societies for Surgery of the Hand Congress was held online this autumn: with over 1,100 participants coming together from 61 countries. The highlight were the live operations, which were broadcastlive online.

Our hand surgery study on trapeziometacarpal osteoarthritis received the «2019 JHSE Editors’ Award». The award was presented by the «Journal of Hand Surgery (European Volume)». The winning study deals with the question what level of pain and limitation of hand function is it best to operate on patients with trapeziometacarpal osteoarthritis in order to get the best possible result.

300th CapFlex prosthesis at the Schulthess Klinik - for pain-free finger joints

On 30.01.2020, Dr. med. Daniel Herren, Head of Hand Surgery, implanted the 300th CapFlex prosthesis into a patient here at our clinic. The artificial finger joint was developed at the Schulthess Klinik and has been used over 1000 times worldwide.
