News Schulthess Klinik strengthens Board of Trustees and appoints new senior doctors

Schulthess Klinik is starting the new year by welcoming new experts. Prof. Dr. Christian Wolfrum, Deputy President & Provost of Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, has been strengthening the Board of Trustees with his expertise since the start of 2026. Dr. med. Philipp Friederichsen was appointed Head of Foot Surgery in January 2026. Dr. med. Tanja Schneider will take over as Head of Internal Medicine in February.

With a newly formed Board of Trustees and several new appointments, Schulthess Klinik is turning to a new generation of experienced managers for the Board of Trustees and medical departments as part of the scheduled succession planning for the start of 2026. What they all have in common is an outstanding academic background and an international profile.

Prof. Dr. Christian Wolfrum has been elected to the Board of Trustees of the Wilhelm Schulthess Foundation. The former Vice President for Research at ETH Zurich is currently Deputy President & Provost of Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. Peter E. Bodmer, President of the Board of Trustees of the Wilhelm Schulthess Foundation, is delighted with the election: “With Prof. Dr. Christian Wolfrum, the Board of Trustees has gained an internationally renowned figure with outstanding academic experience. His expertise will enrich the strategic development of the Foundation, clinic and research.”

Dr. med. Philipp Friederichsen has been appointed as the new Head of Foot Surgery, succeeding Dr. med. Pascal Rippstein, who will remain at the clinic as a Senior Consultant. Dr. Friederichsen has been working for Schulthess Klinik since 2018. He completed his medical studies at the University of Ulm and is a specialist in orthopaedics and traumatology (Swiss Medical Association). Dr. Friederichsen specialised in foot surgery at an early stage and established national and international networks in his field, including at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York and Harvard University in Boston.

As the new Head of Internal Medicine, Dr. med. Tanja Schneider succeeds the previous Head of Internal Medicine, Dr. med. Margrith E. Knecht, who is retiring. Dr. Schneider completed her studies in human medicine at Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg and earned her doctorate at University Hospital Zurich. She is a specialist in general internal medicine (Swiss Medical Association) and has various additional qualifications, including high-altitude medicine, travel medicine and emergency ultrasound.

Prof. Dr. med. univ. Philipp Moroder has been appointed the new Deputy Head of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery. Prof. Dr. Moroder has been Chief Consultant at Schulthess Klinik since 2021. Prior to that, he headed up the Department of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. He is active in numerous professional societies and his research activities have received several awards, both from the American and the European Society of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery. Prof. Moroder is co-founder of The Hive – Musculoskeletal Journal, a platform that provides orthopaedic specialist articles free of charge, and has developed new therapy concepts in shoulder surgery.

With Dr. med. Ute Kretzschmar, Schulthess Klinik is also appointing a new Chief Consultant Neurology. Dr. Kretzschmar has been working for Schulthess Klinik since 2008. She is a specialist in neurology (Swiss Medical Association) and also holds a certificate in manual medicine.

Pascal Rippstein have shaped Schulthess Klinik over the years and decades with their tireless dedication.” With Dr. med. Philipp Friederichsen, Philipp Moroder and Ute Kretzschmar, three new senior doctors have been appointed from the ranks of Schulthess Klinik. “This is how we ensure the continuity of our high medical standards while at the same time providing new impetus – always with the aim of enabling our patients to move pain-free again.”
