Enchondromatosis is a rare bone disease which can cause severe deformities due to partially pronounced tumorous lesions, especially of the long tubular bones. If the affected bone is limited to one side of the body only, the condition is called Ollier’s disease. This case study is of a 9-year-old girl with Ollier’s disease. We describe a surgical correction of a 30-degree bow-leg malposition and leg length difference of 5 cm. In the course of the disease in this patient, these deformities developed due to the asymmetrical involvement of the right lower femoral growth plate as a result of Ollier’s disease.

Internal bone lengthening with the Precice magnetically driven intramedullary nail (NuVasive) offers lots of benefits compared to treatment with an external fixator. In the case of complex multi-dimensional misalignments, however, it is no substitute for the correction possibilities offered by a fixator. Nevertheless, in our experience – in both inward and outward bone lengthening – we have found that these two approaches can be combined in a useful way.

The Isoforce outriggers were developed to optimise the treatment of contractures at the proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint. Biomechanical analysis of both extension and flexion variants have shown that the Isoforce outrigger can maintain both constant force transmission and force application angle throughout complete finger range of motion compared to current outriggers.
