News Strong presence in Lugano: Schulthess Klinik Hand team at the SGH/SGHR Congress

At this year’s SGH/SGHR Congress in Lugano, the Schulthess Klinik Hand Surgery, Hand Therapy and Science team was prominently represented with numerous scientific contributions, intensive promotion of early career researchers and active networking.

The Schulthess Klinik Hand Surgery, Hand Therapy and Science team was represented by a strong delegation at the congress of the Swiss Society of Hand Surgery (SGH) and Swiss Society for Hand Rehabilitation (SGHR) in Lugano this year. The event offered exciting insights, valuable discussions and many inspiring encounters, in keeping with the congress motto “L’unione fa la forza” – Together we are strong.

Significant contributions from our team

Our team made an important contribution to the scientific programme: with 18 presentations and facilitated sessions, we were able to share current research results, practical experience and new approaches in hand surgery and hand therapy. This active involvement demonstrates our commitment to continuously drive the further development of our department – for the benefit of our patients.

Promotion of early career researchers at the Golden Hand Award

A special highlight of the congress was the Golden Hand Award, which was initiated and co-organised by members of our team. Over the course of two days, six teams of young hand surgeons and hand therapists tackled several practical tasks. The award not only strengthens professional skills, but also promotes team spirit and interdisciplinary collaboration.

We are particularly delighted about the winning team, which includes two people with close ties to Schulthess Klinik:

  • Michael Wirth, Resident at Schulthess Klinik
  • Laima Bandzaite, Balgrist University Hospital, former Resident and future Consultant, and Nadine Schulz from University Hospital Zurich.

This joint achievement underscores the excellent networking between the Zurich hospitals and shows how effectively regional collaboration is put into practice in the field of hand surgery and therapy.

Exchange and networking

In addition to the academic content, the focus was on personal exchange. Our team took the opportunity to network with colleagues from all over Switzerland as well as with representatives of the Spanish guest society. The discussions provided new impetus and strengthened the joint further development of our field of expertise.
