Curriculum

Even before I started my studies in 1998, it was clear to me that I’d end up doing something surgical, preferably accident surgery/orthopaedics.

Although I gained insights into almost all areas of medicine during my studies at the LMU Munich, I stayed in surgery and started working as an assistant physician in the cardiovascular surgery department of the University Hospital Zurich in 2005. Since accident surgery never really left me, I transferred to the traumatology department of the University Hospital Zurich, managed by Prof. Dr. med. O. Trentz in 2007. The subsequent years only confirmed my decision and I continued to pursue a career as an accident surgeon. I therefore continued my training as a general surgeon and my journey led me to Uster, and then to Bülach, where I became a consultant in surgery, obtaining my specialist qualification in general surgery in 2013. I mainly devoted myself to traumatology, focusing on the musculoskeletal system. As a result, I decided to work towards qualifying as an orthopaedic specialist too and transferred to a position as a consultant in the orthopaedic department of Spital Bülach. My interest in foot and ankle surgery was sparked at an early stage.  As I progressed, trauma surgery increasingly took a back seat to orthopaedics. I was able to gain further insight when I moved to the Schulthess Klinik. Up until my specialist examination in orthopaedics and traumatology of the musculoskeletal system, certified by the Swiss Medical Association (FMH) in 2017, I knew I wanted to devote myself entirely to orthopaedics. When the opportunity arose to move to the Foot and Ankle Surgery department in March 2018, I just had to seize it.

Since June 2018, I have been a consultant in Foot and Ankle Surgery with no less enthusiasm than I had previously for accident surgery.
