News Hand surgery milestone: 500th CapFlex prosthesis used

Schulthess Klinik is celebrating a milestone after our hand surgeons used the 500th CapFlex prosthesis. This treatment for osteoarthritis of the interphalangeal joint improves our patients’ quality of life.

CapFlex is an innovation from Schulthess Klinik. Dr Daniel Herren and Dr Stephan Schindele developed the prosthesis as a treatment for osteoarthritis of the interphalangeal joint, a painful condition. The prosthesis has proven to be a successful treatment since it was first used in 2010. It has become the go-to solution for index and middle fingers.

What is special about the CapFlex prosthesis? The metal implant provides much more stability for the finger than the previous silicone prostheses. Patients report a significant reduction in pain and good mobility after surgery.

Our experts used the 500th prosthesis with success in June. Over the years, they have helped so many people to live a pain-free life.
