News «2019 JHSE Editors’ Award» for our hand surgery study on trapeziometacarpal osteoarthritis

Our hand surgery study on trapeziometacarpal osteoarthritis received the «2019 JHSE Editors’ Award». The award was presented by the «Journal of Hand Surgery (European Volume)».

At what level of pain and limitation of hand function is it best to operate on patients with trapeziometacarpal osteoarthritis in order to get the best possible result? Our research team deals with this question in the award-winning study. Our results showed that it is often worth delaying the operation when there are mild symptoms, but that you should also not wait until the symptoms become severe, as residual complaints can then persist. This knowledge supports doctors when advising patients on when it makes sense to operate.

The «Journal of Hand Surgery - European Volume» is the world's most prestigious hand surgery medical journal. Not even 20% of the articles that are submitted to the journal for publication are actually published. All articles are subject to a strict peer review process where the quality of the scientific work is assessed by several independent experts. The Editor’s Award honours the journal’s top six articles of the year.
