Information for international patients

We are pleased that you have chosen to have your treatment at our clinic. Below you will find some useful information for international patients.

Who do we treat?

Schulthess Klinik’s services for international patients are aimed at:

  • Patients with international health insurance who are resident abroad or in Switzerland
  • Patients resident abroad who are being treated at their own expense

Insurance, costs and administrative matters

Outpatient treatment (consultation hours, infiltrations, outpatient procedures without overnight stay)

Insurance cover for patients from EU/EFTA states: In principle, we accept the E112/S2 form. As the patient, you must apply for this to your own insurance company in advance. Settlement is then made via the insurance certificate. If there is no insurance certificate, the invoice is sent directly to the patient. Please contact your insurance company if you have any questions.

Patients from non-EU/EFTA countries: You will receive a cost estimate. This is an advance payment, which must be made no later than five days prior to treatment. At the end of the treatment, the actual costs will be offset against your advance payment and, if the costs are lower, the remaining amount will be transferred to you. If the advance payment made is insufficient, we will charge you for the additional costs.

MRI / CT

For a complete diagnosis, imaging with a large machine (MRI, CT) may be necessary on a case-by-case basis. The Medical Radiology Institute (MRI) at the Klinik is an external institution and will therefore charge the costs directly to you. Payments can be made in cash or by credit card.

Inpatient treatment (surgery)

The costs for the inpatient stay will be calculated separately and you will receive a cost estimate in advance. The amount depends on the type of operation and the length of stay. This amount must be paid no later than five days prior to admission.

Thank you for your interest. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
