News Prof. Dr. Friederike Schömig visits the Schulthess Klinik
Last week, Prof. Dr. med. Friederike Schömig paid us a two-day visit. She has been a professor at Charité Berlin since September 2025 and holds the professorship sponsored by the Schulthess Foundation.
During her visit, her guest lecture offered exciting insights into current developments and future prospects in registry research. Patient data is used to analyse which treatments are effective and for which patients they are most suitable. Another focus was on how institutional registries can be supplemented in future by medical image data, biomarkers, quantitative functional measurements and digital movement data – and which interfaces are necessary for this.
A particularly nice aspect of this visit was the active involvement of our young clinical and academic staff: for many young scientists and doctors, it was a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas directly with Friederike Schömig – about registry design, medical imaging, methodological challenges, academic career paths and her role in future joint projects.
The exchange generated real momentum: a vision of how the Schulthess Clinic's 20 years of registry experience can be combined with the new developments at Charité to further develop the registries together.
We are delighted that Friederike Schömig will be visiting us regularly in future to further strengthen our cooperation and research with Charité. Encounters such as these are important door openers and empower the next generation in research and science communication.
An inspiring visit and another step towards a strong, shared scientific future!
