Featured Prof. Dr. Christian Egloff to become the new Head of Knee Surgery

With effect from 1. September 2026, Prof. Dr. Christian Egloff will take up the post of Head of Knee Surgery, succeeding Dr. Stefan Preiss, who has led the Knee Surgery department since 2008.

Christian Egloff has been working at the Schulthess Klinik since December 2023. Prior to this, he was at the University Hospital of Basel, most recently as a senior consultant and head of the knee surgery team. In 2019, he completed his habilitation at the University of Basel. His areas of specialisation include knee joint replacement – including robot-assisted procedures – arthroscopic and joint-preserving knee surgery, patellofemoral surgery and reconstructive cartilage surgery.

Christian Egloff is actively involved in several professional societies, including as a member of the Knee Expert Group at swiss orthopaedics and as President of the Swiss Section of the Society for Orthopaedics and Traumatology in Sport. 

At the Schulthess Clinic, Christian Egloff focuses on four clinical and scientific areas: the clinical biomechanics of the anterior cruciate ligament, cartilage research and osteoarthritis treatment, patellofemoral instability, and robot-assisted knee replacement. With over 100 scientific publications to his name, he is one of the leading clinical and scientific voices in knee surgery in Switzerland. «I am looking forward to further developing knee surgery at the Schulthess Klinik together with the team. My aim is to provide patient-centred care that combines medical excellence with the latest scientific evidence and personalised support – from sports injuries to osteoarthritis», says Christian Egloff.

Stefan Preiss has worked at the Schulthess Klinik since 2004 – as Head of Department since 2008 – and has had a decisive influence on knee surgery during his 18-year tenure. We thank him warmly for his many years of dedication and are delighted that he will remain at the clinic as a senior consultant, continuing to carry out clinical and surgical work. He will therefore continue to be available in an advisory and clinical capacity, drawing on his many years of expertise.
