See more, act more purposefully

To us, therapy and training mean more than just guiding movement or preparing training plans. We base what we do on in-depth knowledge, make systematic observations and work with measurable results. This allows us to improve safety and make progress visible.

Detecting warning signs

In 2025, the focus of physiotherapy was on the systematic screening of what are referred to as “red flags”. These are warning signs of serious illnesses that require medical attention. In a comprehensive series of internal training courses, we trained our Physiotherapy team to recognise such signs at an early stage and to react to them correctly. An internal reference guide supports the team in their day-to-day work. This increases patient safety and strengthens interdisciplinary cooperation.

Making progress measurable

In rehabilitation, both subjective perception and objective measurements are important. Since 2025, the Physiotherapy department has regularly measured shoulder strength using an isokinetic testing machine – a method used by only a few organisations in Switzerland to date. The results, which are continuously shared with the treating physicians, show precisely how strength develops over time.

Measurability is also at the heart of performance diagnostics. For the past ten years, we have been using the Pegasus testing device for computer-aided measurement of core strength, which helps us recognise strengths, weaknesses and muscular imbalances. Strong and stable core muscles are crucial in many sports as well as in occupations and daily activities that require a high level of physical strength. An ongoing study is now building on this long-time experience. The aim is to prove that the measured force actually reflects the function of the core muscles. To do this, we compare the measured strength values with the MRI-assessed muscle quality as well as other test results. In this way, we create a scientifically sound basis for precise training management and offer a cost-effective and fast alternative to more complex examinations to assess the health of the core muscles.

Training for dementia prevention

Therapy does not end with physical fitness. As part of the “Pro Mental” project, the Schulthess Training department has been participating in a dementia prevention programme since 2025, in cooperation with the University Hospital of Psychiatry. Patients with incipient dementia first complete structured group training and then an individually tailored strength programme. Part of the process is to examine how well such a prevention programme can be implemented in day-to-day life and how we can make targeted use of physical activity to strengthen cognitive health.

This demonstrates that therapies and training at Schulthess Klinik are not based on experience alone. We provide systematic training, conduct precise measurements and cooperate closely across disciplines, with our own research department, as well as with device manufacturers, training institutes and other clinics. This ensures safety, transparency and sustainable progress for our patients and clients.
