Sharing knowledge, advancing quality

Schulthess Klinik has once again been recertified as an AO Spine Centre for the period from 2025 to 2028. This award is closely linked to a clear mission: AO Spine Centres play an active role in education and training in spine surgery. This commitment to teaching and professional development is a key criterion of certification.

Continuing education and networking as a driver of quality

As one of five AO Spine Centres in Switzerland, we have very actively taken on this mission: in 2025, Schulthess Klinik was strongly represented at several AO Spine courses and seminars – as a host, by speakers and participants. The clinic itself once again hosted an AO Spine Basic Seminar to prepare for the specialist examination, which was attended by 36 prospective specialists. We also welcomed visiting doctors from all over the world, including four AO Spine Fellows from China, Italy, Romania and Turkey.

Prof. Dr. med. Markus Loibl is also involved in Europe and Southern Africa as an AO Spine Education Officer. In this role, he helps design international training programmes and shapes training content far beyond Switzerland. With the election of Dr. med. Raluca Reitmeir as the Neurosurgery representative on the Board of AO Spine Switzerland, Schulthess Klinik is also involved in the further development of spine surgery at a national level.

This commitment not only strengthens international networking, but also promotes professional exchange and joint research projects. Those who impart knowledge also review and reflect on their own practice. This results in innovations, new treatment approaches and continuous improvements that directly benefit our patients.

Modern implant system

We have not been standing still when it comes to surgical technology either: in 2025, the Spine Surgery department introduced the TriALTIS™ Spine System, a new generation of implants for complex spine surgery. The system offers particularly reliable fixation of the spine and thus more stability for patients. At the same time, it can be combined with state-of-the-art surgical technology such as navigation or neuromonitoring. This increases precision and safety during the procedure.
